Still looking desperately for an iPad 2? Assuming you’re content with a Wi-Fi only model in a small or mid-sized capacity, you might want to saunter over to your local Toys “R” Us store, where you may finally be able to get your hands on one.
9to5Mac is reporting that recent rumors of the iPad 2 coming to retailer Toys “R” Us have come true, with the toy giant starting to sell the device over the weekend, on Sunday, April 17 -- notably, the same day that your friendly neighborhood Best Buy also uncorked their own iPad 2 stash they’ve been holding onto lately in recent weeks.
While iPad 2 availability at Toys “R” Us should help ease the suffering of many still looking for the slim tablet, it’s kind of a good news/bad news scenario. First, the retailer is only selling 16GB (black or white) and 32GB (black only) models. Second, they’re the cheaper Wi-Fi only versions -- no 3G of any kind to be found here.
Assuming you don’t mind being seen in a Toys “R” Us store without a little one in tow and you like your iPad 3G-free in a lower capacity, you’re all set -- the company is selling the Smart Cover and the Leather Cover as well. The retailer has set up a section of their website to show off the “select stores” offering the iPad 2, so be sure to hit that before heading out with cash in hand.
And hey, you can always borrow a niece or nephew to accompany you to Toys “R” Us if you don’t feel comfortable going it alone. Kids rarely turn down an offer to go there, but you’ll want to come prepared with some extra cash, because they won’t likely want to leave empty-handed.
