On the heels of speculation about the iPad 2 getting double the resolution and a dual-core GPU, a few other tidbits leaked out over the weekend involving parts already on sale for the unannounced device as well as three mysterious SKUs for the iPad that have landed in Best Buy’s database.
MacRumors is reporting that a part vendor named GlobalDirectParts is already offering both an LCD screen as well as a “vibrating motor” for what they claim is the forthcoming iPad 2 -- including a listing for what appears to be a white model of the tablet device which is believed to be a concept image.
You may recall the name GlobalDirectParts from their YouTube video showing off purported parts for an “iPhone 5” that wound up being taken down by Apple. As it turns out, those parts were instead similar to the ones found in the Verizon iPhone 4, which has a slightly tweaked outer casing.
Now, GlobalDirectParts has returned with what they claim are two parts for the iPad 2. The first is the “iPad 2 LCD Screen,” a $218.19 part listed as “out of stock” on the company’s website. The most interesting aspect of this is that the original iPad LCD part was sold for $144.99 when that device was released last year -- leading to further speculation that the iPad 2 may indeed have a higher resolution display, and therefore a more costly LCD screen.
Less likely seems to be the “iPad Vibrating Motor,” which would seem to indicate that the second-generation iPad might be gaining a silent vibrate mode like the one used in the iPhone -- or it could simply be a mislabeled part intended for that handset.
Adding to the ever-mounting iPad mystery of late, Best Buy has added three new iPad listings to their database which briefly appeared on their website over the weekend. All three are listed as “Coming Soon,” with two priced at $599.99 and one at $699.99.
“No other information beyond the scant details included on the product pages is available, and thus it is unclear if these listings are intended to reflect second-generation iPad models, some sort of internal SKU shift on existing models, or perhaps simply an error on Best Buy's part,” MacRumors noted.
