Little known fact: The iPad 2 is selling well. Like, really well. Just how well, you ask? According to Digitimes, Apple shipped 2.4-2.6 million iPads in March, and according to a conservative source those numbers are set to almost double during the second quarter.
Sales of iPad 2 are running at a rate faster than its predecessor, and Apple took delivery of 2.4-2.6 million units in March. Apple is likely to take delivery of 4-4.3 million units a month, or a total of over 12 million units, of iPad 2 tablets in the second quarter, said the sources.
Upwards of 50 million iPad 2's being sold, and that's a conservative guess. Craziness!
While we're on the subject of craziness, Deutsche Bank released an estimate of sales for what is considered to be the most credible iPad 2 competitor, the Motorola Xoom, and, well, it isn't pretty. How many Xooms have been sold? A paltry 100,000, and there's already talk that Motorola's set to shortly wind down production of the Honeycomb-festooned tablet.
The runway sure does seem pretty clear for the iPad to continue to own the tablet market for the foreseeable future. Rock on, Apple. Rock on.
