Did you know that the iPad 2's glass display is 27% thinner than the iPad 1's? It's true! You might think that because of that, the iPad 2's display would be more fragile than its predecessor, but if you thought that you'd be wrong! The saintly folks at iFixYouri.com have performed some stress tests on the iPad 2 display, and the results will shock you!
Okay, maybe they won't shock you, especially if you've just read the last paragraph, but iFixYouri.com found that the iPad 2 display is more resistant to breaks than the iPad 1 display. How is this miracle possible? Apparently it's because the iPad 2 display has more give; when these panels break, its because they can't handle the pressure applied to them, but a more flexible screen can handle more pressure, meaning it's a lot tougher and harder to break. Science!
Here's an impressively scientific video of the iPad 2 screen being put through its paces:
I'm pretty sure that is a quote from Apple to the press. Given that statement, it makes sense that Apple would want to improve upon the iPad structure.
I wonder what effect this flexibility will have when it comes to accidental damage. Let me explain, if you step on it or forget it's stuck in between the car seat and middle console and you back over it. The glass probably will not break, but what about the inside parts? Won't they be "squished"?
