It is hard to believe that in just under a year ago, Apple introduced the iPad and persuaded many to change their views of mobile computing. The iBook Store was launched a few months later, and changed people's perception of e-books, but when Steve Jobs said Apple planned to "Stand on [Amazon's] shoulders and go a little further," he may have been mumbling more than just some marketing terms.
According to a post by AllThingsD with data from a ChangeWave survey, the iPad share of the e-book market has more than doubled since August. That means that iPad and its iBookstore is now just under a 15% reach to the Amazon Kindle e-reader.

In the survey of 2,800 users, 32% said they used the iPad as their main e-reader, while 47% said they used the Kindle. You can see how the iPad is closing in on the gap when you look at the previous survey that found 62% of people were a Kindle as their e-reader of choice and only 16% were using iPads.
Probably the most shocking news, especially for Amazon, is what respondents said they'd buy next. Of the people planning to purchase an e-reader in the next 90-days, 42% responded they would pick the iPad, while only 33% said they would go the Kindle route.
“The Amazon Kindle is hanging on to a rapidly diminishing lead over the Apple iPad among current e-reader owners….The iPad is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of the expanding e-reader market this holiday season," said Paul Carton, director of research at ChangeWave.
