Apple CEO Steve Jobs took the stage this morning to introduce iOS 4.1, available next week, and offer a preview of iOS 4.2 for the iPad, which is expected in November as a free update.
On the heels of iOS 4.1 next week, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has introduced iOS 4.2, which finally brings some much-needed update love to everyone’s favorite tablet device. While it’s disappointing that we have to wait until November to get a high-profile update for the iPad, the good news is that it’s a freebie and brings a lot of new functionality to the tablet.
Wireless printing is at the top of the list of features that Steve Jobs showed off with iOS 4.2 for the iPad. While in an app such as Pages, you’ll find printers in your network in the Tools menu and you can control them right from the new Print Center. Of course, with iOS 4.2, the iPad gains all of the multitasking love already enjoyed by the iPhone and iPod touch, including a universal inbox for Mail and threaded e-mails.
iOS 4.2 isn’t all about the iPad -- it will also be available for the iPhone and iPod touch when it officially arrives in November, hopefully finally bringing feature parity to all three devices at the same time (fingers crossed).
