There are two types of writers skulking around the tech journalism blogosphere. The first write stories and offer opinions based upon hard facts gained through research and insight gleaned from years of covering the same beat. The second fuels their offerings on unicorn tears, fanboy lust, and Santa Claus wishlists full of demands for as of yet unrealized features in their favorite object of tech desire.
Computerworld's Jonny Evans belongs to the former group. The dependable pundit, who hangs his hat over at Computerworld's Appleholic blog, doesn't tend to leap into a story without looking, making for some pretty reliable reading. In Evans's entry to the blog last week, he wastes no time in calling a shovel a spade where the issue of manufacturers cranking out "iPad killers" is concerned.
By Evans's estimation, tablet products looking to gain any market share over the iPad don't stand a chance for the time being. It's not because of how awesome or lustworthy the iPad is. Instead, Evans looks to the facts: with component manufacturers scrambling to meet their contractual agreements with Apple, and in turn, Apple's demand for components, there are simply not enough parts to go around to the other guys for anything resembling a market insurgance strong enough to push Apple off of its lofty tablet-computing throne.
Well, this is great news for the iPad, as it will hopefully remain on its throne for years to come.
