iPad Mini Could Have 16:9 Aspect Ratio

I suspect that the resolution of the new iPad Mini (or iPod HD) may be 16:9 at 1366 x 768. Using 1366 x 768 would keep down the production cost of the display, but also give the iPad Mini a better resolution than any of the 7" tablets (topping out at 1280 x 720 pixels).

1366 x 768 could still run non-retina iPad apps at 1024 x 768 with letterboxing. Those apps could even be easily optimized for the new 1366 x 768 resolution, similar to how iPhone 4/4S apps are being optimized for the iPhone 5/ iPod5.

Lastly, iPhone 5/iPod5 apps optimized for 1136 x 640 would still look great scaled up to 1366 x 768 on the 7.85" screens, bridging the gap in the best way possible.

It makes zero sense to produce an iPad mini. It will only reduce standard iPad sales. If you TRULY can't afford $599, can you really afford $499? ...or $399?

Not just about money, the 9.7 inch iPad is (obviously) too big and heavy for some, no matter how thin they make it. I believe that the full-size iPad is a suitable laptop replacement (for most things) but it is not as portable for planes/trains/beaches/pools and the iPad mini, which is more suitable as an e-reader/larger iPod. It is sad for me that it is not retina and wide-screen however, and I hope that they makes those changes for the next generation.
