iPad To Not Allow iPhone Tethering According To Jobs
Every now and then Steve Jobs will actually take some time out to answer emails from customers, to show that hey, he actually is human! Sometimes his answers can actually contain lots of information, and other times, not so much, and are straight and to the point. According to Cult of Mac, someone wrote in asking about tethering between the iPad and iPhone. Here's the email:
"I'll keep it short.
I'm Jezper from Sweden, a long time Apple fan, currently about to replace the very last computer at home with a brand spanking new iMac i7. I'm also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question:
Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?
Two devices, based on the same OS, with already built-in technology to share one data plan suggests a secondary contract could possibly be redundant.
From the look of your keynote, where the iPad sits well between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, I was hoping the three of them could interact as seamless as possible.
All the best,Jezper Soderlund"
And what was Jobs' response you might ask?
"No.
Sent from my iPhone"
What makes it odd is that even though AT&T still hasn't even gotten around to tethering features between the iPhone and a computer in the US, it has support overseas on the iPhone 3GS. Granted, both AT&T and Apple went with a month to month, contract free 3G option because they didn't think that most consumers would want yet another data plan. But the international 3G options for the iPad have yet to be revealed, so time will tell! Stay tuned!

He says there's no tethering between my iPhone and MacBook Pro for 3G too, but... If he doesn't like jailbreaks he should eliminate the need.
