Looking to unload your current iPad now that Apple has made its March 7 media event official? Apparently, you’re not alone -- eBay is reporting that trade-ins for Apple’s tablet have increased by ten times over last year.
Cnet is reporting that iPad trade-ins are up, up and away this year over last -- with 10 times the number of tablets being traded in this February compared to the same month last year. The company has generated more than 125,000 trade-in offers for the original iPad as well as the iPad this month through its Instant Sale program.
“Those offers are for the online commerce site's Instant Sale program, which differs from its auction services by giving gadget owners a way to trade in items for cash,” Cnet explains. “Users describe the quality of their item, and eBay picks up the shipping cost, as well as the job of wiping whatever data is on it.”
eBay Instant Sale has racked up 7.3 million trade-in offers since launch, and not surprisingly, Apple’s iPhone, iPod and iPad make up “the majority of trade-ins.” Among the most popular iPad models being traded in are the first generation Wi-Fi only variations, which makes sense since they would likely sell for the least amount.
Of course, Instant Sale handles more than just Apple products. Among the most popular trade-in items that don’t come from Cupertino: Tablets from ViewSonic, Motorola, Asus, Acer and Dell. Go figure…
