The iPhone 3G S, Now With a Dog Whistle
If you are a young-ish iPhone 3G S owner, and you haven't irreversibly damaged your ears with awesome headphones, you may have noticed your iPhone emitting an incredibly high-pitched sound after system sounds like unlocking the phone or text messaging. You aren't alone, as several others have reported the same issue. If you haven't, imagine the sound you hear when you walk through a security scanner with headphones on, or pretend you are a dog, and blow a dog whistle. If you haven't tried THAT yet, we suggest you don't. Or do, in solidarity with troubled iPhone users, but we didn't suggest it.Apple has yet to address the issue, and it is a fairly big one. Hopefully it is just a few faulty units that can be replaced, or something that can be rectified via software update, because if this is a widespread issue, we would assume it is big enough to warrant a recall.

I notice it. I feel it maybe a software issue as when it is on vibrate it does not happen. I am 30ish and it is not that big of a issue to me. I am sure some with younger ears will want this fixed ASAP. "donnamae791" I had the echo on my 3G, but not on my 3G S, I took my 3G in and the swapped it. May have to do the same for you.

I haven't noticed this, but my ears are not youngish ;)However, everyone I call complains about an echo. They hear their own voice back a few seconds after they talk.Is this the same problem?

I first noticed this on my Palm years ago. and watches do this, or they used to when you hit the inglo or indigo thing whatever its called. i think its the screen that does this. In fact on my palm if i screwed with the brightness i could hear it going higher and lower in pitch.
