Look, anyone outside of the secret circle at Apple Inc. who tells you the iPhone 5 is coming soon probably doesn’t know what they’re talking about. About the only real clue is the promised fall arrival of iOS 5, which is unlikely to be released without new hardware to complement it -- but bear with us as we chat up another new rumor anyway.
BGR is reporting that a “high-level AT&T source” is touting early October for the release of the iPhone 5. Yeah, we know, we know -- everyone and their brother is prognosticating on when Apple’s next handset will arrive, and all we have to go right now is following the betas released for iOS 5 and tech journalists who claim their rumors are worth more than anyone else’s.
Be that as it may, the latest early October timeline apparently comes straight from the mouth of an unnamed AT&T Vice President, who recently “confirmed to several employees that the iPhone 5 is slated to launch” around that time.
“Expect things to get really, really busy in the next 35-50 days, so prepare your teams accordingly,” the AT&T veep has reportedly told the troops, offering little more in the way of details than anyone else has.
It goes without saying that carriers are frequently in the dark as much as the rest of us when it comes to Apple release plans, so take the latest news with the usual grain of salt and chalk it up to a slow news day. That said, most everyone expects some kind of Apple media event in September to announce the new hardware, which is widely expected to launch in -- you guessed it -- early October.
Maybe AT&T Vice Presidents read blogs, too?
