While Verizon's cellular network may be ready for the iPhone's arrival, reports are that their website may not have been ready for the interest in Apple's device. There were multiple occurrences of downtime throughout the day on the Verizon Wireless website. Perchance it could be a good test run of what's to come for the carrier as it hopes to not repeat AT&T's iPhone 4 pre-order nightmare from last summer?
According to AppleInsider, one reader reported that attempts to access the upgrade section of Verizon's website either timed out or received the message: "Safari can't open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again."
Other readers were reporting being unable to access the Verizon site on Tuesday.
Perhaps in an attempt to lessen the traffic blow to their site, Verizon is allowing existing customers to pre-order "on or around February 3rd," before the device is available to all customers on February 10th.
