Apple killed iPhone sales this weekend by hitting its 1 millionth sale on Sunday. According to Fierce Mobile Content, Piper Jaffray Senior Research Analyst Gene Munster last week predicted the iPhone 3G S would sell only 500,000 units in their debut weekend, half of the iPhone 3G sales last year.
Even with delayed activations proved the iPhone to be a success. While completing the activation process of new iPhones through iTunes, a message stated, “Your activation requires additional time to compete. Due to the current activation volumes, it may take up to 48 hours to resolve your issue.”
Apple’s consistent number of sales is prevailing. In addition, 6 million customers have downloaded the new 3.0 software since last Wednesday. The iPhone 3G is still available for those looking into buying an iPhone without emptying their pockets as much, but the demand for the latest iPhone is as high as ever. Could it be the improved battery life that got customers wanting more? Or is it the video recording? Some consumers were asked at a local iPhone reseller location what they were looking forward to the most this to the new release, and many of them answered, “I just want the latest phone.”
