iPhoning It Vonage Style

Just a week ago we were predicting a
lengthy wait time for the Vonage app to work its way through the
mysteries of the App Store approval process. Well, with the
announcement of its approval, we admit we were wrong, but only partly.
Where
we got it right was in the (admittedly easy) bet that if Vonage was
shackled to Wi-Fi it would get approved. There was simply no way, given
AT&T and Apple's cozy terms of use agreements, that anyone could
roll out their VoIP app that operated through the 3G network and find
themselves approved.

If you want to use your own data plan at
home or bogart someone else's bandwidth? Well, that's a horse of a
different color, and Vonage sailed through the approval process despite
so-called "technical issues." It could be that everyone
understood the rules going in and that's why this went off so smoothly,
or it could be Apple's finally taking some notice of the bad press
their App Store is giving them. A big name FAIL would be Google Voice
all over again.
Either way, Vonage fans can now rejoice. Get those dialing fingers
ready, because reportedly the app goes live by the week's end.
