iPhoto ’11 Giving You the Blues? Try Updating to Mac OS X 10.6.7

While there hasn’t been much digital ink on the subject, apparently iPhoto ’11 has been giving nothing but grief to Mac users with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics cards. But relief appears at hand, simply by installing this week’s Mac OS X 10.6.7 update.
TUAW is reporting that iPhoto ’11 (aka iPhoto 9) troubles with the application freezing up that have been widely documented on Apple’s support forums may be alleviated simply by applying the Mac OS X 10.6.7 update the company pushed out this week.
How do you know if you’re affected? Apparently, certain Macs would have an issue with iPhoto ’11 simply freezing -- sometimes for five minutes or more, while the entire computer became unresponsive. Then, like magic, things would get back to normal. Users of older Intel-based Mac Pro systems and “some iMacs” have pointed the finger at the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics card, although TUAW makes it clear that others have been mentioned as well.
“It got so bad that some people gave up on iPhoto completely and moved to Aperture or Picasa,” writes TUAW’s Mel Martin. “Every update to either Snow Leopard or iPhoto got hopes up, but nothing seemed to help... until now. The latest update to Snow Leopard seems to have squashed the bug, and many people are finding the mysterious paralysis is now gone.”
It’s always great news when long-standing bugs get squashed -- particularly when Apple’s own release notes don’t list the issue as one of those resolved. If you’ve been having problems with iPhoto ’11 freezing, it can’t hurt to update to Mac OS X 10.6.7 and see if you can get any relief.
