Is it that time already? Apple announced Monday morning that this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference will kick off in San Francisco on June 6, with the five-day event taking place at Moscone West as usual. So who’s excited?
That huge unlock sound you hear this morning is the noise of thousands of iOS devices being opened to enter reminders into the Calendar app for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which Apple announced on Monday morning will run June 6 through 10 at Moscone West in San Francisco.
“At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS,” said Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller. “If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss.”
That certainly sounds like Apple has something magical up their sleeve, and that’s saying something since past WWDC events have seen the announcement of the likes of the iPhone 4. It would seem that an iPhone 5 is all but a given for this year’s conference, and if the rumors are to be believed, we could even see the release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion during the conference as well.
Otherwise, the annual event is more exciting to developers for the more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple’s engineers. Last year’s WWDC was almost entirely focused on iOS, but with a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion preview version already in developers’ hands, it would seem the balance will be split more evenly between the mobile and desktop platforms this year.
If you’re a developer, you know the drill -- hit the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2011 website and purchase your $1,599 tickets today, since this is generally a sell-out event.
