9to5mac reports that Apple is including a new early earthquake warning notification option for iOS 5 users in Japan.
Users will be able to activate the early earthquake notifications at the very bottom of the iOS 5 Notification Center.

When activated, the feature will establish an always-on connection to Japan's earthquake early warning system, a nationwide online system launched in 2007 that detects tremors, calculates an earthquake’s epicenter and sends out brief warnings from over one thousand seismographs installed around the country. The system provides warning anywhere from a few seconds to one to two minutes before an earthquake hits.
According to the report, the text on the screen shot is a warning that activating the feature can reduce battery life.
