Lang Lang Forgoes Piano for iPad in Concert
A famous pianist broke out an iPad in a concert this week, choosing to tickle touch-sensitive glass instead ivory keys.
Chinese pianist Lang Lang used the iPad at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco to play Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, to laughter and applause from the audience.
The performance was recorded by YouTube user charissalui. Lest anyone assume charissalui made a bootleg recording, the video appears on Lang Lang's official site, so Lang Lang (or someone in his inner circle) must approve.
While Lang Lang is an accomplished pianist, he likely had some help from Smule's Magic Piano app for iPad. On its official website, Smule tells users to "Impress your friends with how quickly you've mastered 'Flight of the Bumblebee.'"
But, since Smule also says the app is "inspired by world renowned pianist Lang Lang," we figure he's got some license to indulge in some A4-assisted musicmaking, even with a grand piano only a few steps away.
