We're not afraid to say we're big fans of Amazon Instant Video, but at the same time, we confess to some secret shame over the fact that the service isn't available on the Apple TV. Well, now it is -- sort of.
Amazon Mobile LLC updated its free Amazon Instant Video app on Tuesday, finally empowering its rental, purchased or subscription-based streaming video to be beamed directly to the Apple TV via AirPlay at long last.
Sure, it's not quite as awesome as having an actual Apple TV channel for the service (and what's up with that anyway, Apple?), but now fans of Under The Dome can at least watch the last couple episodes on a television screen, the way the CBS network intended.
AirPlay support isn't the only new feature of Amazon Instant Video 2.1: The universal app also adds IMDb cast and director information as well as ratings, trivia and popular quotes for your favorite content, while also enabling customer reviews from the Amazon.com website.
Just finished a movie or TV show and want to watch something else by the same director or featuring one of the same cast members? No problem, the app will help you do that, as well as reveal what other customers have been watching after they watch the title just completed.
Last but not least, Amazon Instant Video 2.1 offers an improved offline experience, a more responsive user interface and the ability to download more than one title at a time, so head to the App Store and grab it today.
