It's a great time to be a Mac user, with accessory makers big and small finally taking the platform seriously with native software. Logitech has been leading the charge, and now counts its security products among them.
Logitech announced the debut of its Logitech Alert Commander software in the Mac App Store on Wednesday, a free OS X app that turns any Mac into a video security command center when used with the company's hardware products.
Promising easy and reliable video surveillance, Logitech Alert Commander for Mac works with all Logitech Alert security cameras, and supports OS X 10.6.8 and higher. The software adds to the company's other software offerings for the security platform, which include free apps for iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices.
“We’ve heard the increasing requests for an Alert Commander for Mac, and are proud that Logitech Alert is one of the first security solutions to help people who use Mac keep their homes protected,” said James Lopez, general manager of digital video security at Logitech. “Now, people with Macs can keep a watchful eye on their home, office or vacation residence and rest assured knowing it’s safe. We think peace of mind should be just an arm’s reach away -- regardless if you’re using Mac or Windows -- which is also why we provide free online viewing accounts to our customers.”
Logitech Alert Commander allows Mac users to view live and recorded video from cameras in HD resolution and also backs up recorded video from those cameras to your computer. Account and security settings make it easy to control digital pan, tilt and zoom, set up motion zones for individual cameras and even create or manage email and mobile phone motion alerts.
The Mac software supports up to six Logitech Alert security cameras, with high-quality 960 x 720 HD video at 15fps, a 130-degree wide-angle lens for twice the viewing area and built-in DVR for recording motion events to an included 2GB micro-SD card, even when your Mac is turned off. Night vision is also available on several models, and the Logitech Alert system uses HomePlug networking for wire-free installation.
Logitech Alert Commander for Mac is now available as a free download from the Mac App Store and requires a Logitech Alert security system, which starts at $199.99 retail.
