Just about literally bringing up the rear in terms of major GPS hardware companies coming to the iPhone, Magellan quietly slid into the App Store this weekend with its RoadMate 2010 North America for 3G and 3GS.
Among the many touted features are a OneTouch Favorites menu to bookmark your favorite places and searches, spoken street name guidance, highway lane assistance, Magellan’s great QuickSpell® with SmartCity Search to quickly enter addresses and 3D landmarks. The NAVTEQ maps are already part of the app, so they work even without a cellular signal.
Unique to the iPhone version is address book integration, in-app music control, pedestrian mode and a nifty “find your car” feature which saves your parking location so you can easily find your way back with ease.
Best of all, iPod touch and first-gen iPhone users won’t be left out in the cold — Magellan will soon be offering a Premium Car Kit with built-in GPS receiver, too. In addition to a fully adjustable mount (portrait or landscape) that works even with a skin or case, the car kit features in-car charging, a noise-cancelling speakerphone, Bluetooth hands-free calling, amplified speaker and it works with any GPS app, not just Magellan’s offering. No word on when the car kit will be available, but you can sign up to be notified on their website.
Magellan RoadMate 2010 for North America is available right now in the App Store at $79.99 for a limited time only.
