They may be late to the party, but Magellan has finally updated their RoadMate GPS apps for iOS 4, complete with multitasking, fast app switching, uninterrupted navigation while on phone calls and free traffic data.
Magellan’s RoadMate GPS apps have been sorely lacking in usability since iOS 4 came onto the scene, but that’s all changed this week as the company made up for lost time with a fresh 1.3 update that gets the company on par with competitors such as TomTom and CoPilot Live.
New to Magellan RoadMate is iOS 4 support, which means multitasking and fast application switching as well as uninterrupted navigation while on phone calls and continued voice guidance while you’re using another app. Other GPS apps on the iPhone have had this for months now, so it’s good to see that Magellan has gotten caught up.
While their competitors are more than happy to charge for traffic data (generally via in-app subscription), the RoadMate apps now include real-time, lifetime traffic data provided by NAVTEQ. This feature displays both incident information as well as the flow of traffic for a given route, and makes the Magellan apps an attractive deal.
Users can now share their routes and points of interest (POI) locations with anyone in your contacts, quickly and easily. Magellan users will also receive real-time offers and coupons from right inside the app, no matter where you happen to be at the time. Finally, you can now listen to music while navigating and the volume will intelligently fade during voice guidance.
Magellan RoadMate is available in three flavors: North America ($44.99, which gets you the U.S. & Canada), USA ($34.99) or Canada & Alaska ($29.99), all of which are currently up to 25% off until December 1. With the holidays upon us, now is a great time to get one of the premiere GPS apps in the palm of your hand for cheap!
