Magic Mouse Manual Implies OS X 10.6.2 on the Horizon
People that have read the Magic Mouse user manual have noticed a
reference to Mac OS X 10.6.2, which has yet to be released. The reference reads: “To use your Apple Magic Mouse and its full
range of features, update your Mac to Mac OS X version 10.5.8 or later
and install the Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0; or update to Mac OS
X version 10.6.2 or later.”
As implied from the manual, the Magic Mouse will work on any OS X 10.5.8 or later, but anything before 10.6.2 will require an installation of Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0. The release of the Magic Mouse yesterday with the reference to 10.6.2 suggests that Apple could have planned to release the new operating system with the product launch.
Apple has seeded three builds of OS X 10.6.2 to developers, the most recent being delivered last Friday. The update addresses an issue with guest accounts, in which they can lose all data from their regular user accounts when signing in and out.
