MagicPrefs Really Makes Your Magic Mouse Magical

Maybe it was just our experience, but when FedEx showed up with our Apple Magic Mouse (ordered right after it was announced), the magic seemed to leave the room as quickly as it arrived. But now you can bring out the real sorcery in your Magic Mouse, courtesy of MagicPrefs.
MagicPrefs comes courtesy of Romanian software developer Vlad Alexa. The free menubar application aims to improve the functionality and configuration options of Apple’s latest Magic Mouse, since Cupertino’s own drivers leave a lot to be desired.
Among the wand-waving tricks that MagicPrefs brings to the table are the ability to add a variable number of finger clicks, taps, swipes, pinch and other gestures to functions like Middle Click, Hold Down Both Mouse Buttons, Spaces, Exposé, Dashboard and more.
Touch Sensitivity gives the Magic Mouse more flexibility with taps, swipes, pinches and other gestures, while Tracking Speed adds the ability to increase the maximum mouse speed by an extra 200% -- perfect for large displays such as the new 27-inch iMac which includes the Magic Mouse. In our brief experience with the Magic Mouse, the tracking speed was the biggest problem, so it’s great to hear this gets remedied by a third-party solution. Finally, MagicPrefs features a real-time display of fingers touching the surface of the mouse so you can monitor the way it will work with your own fingers.
MagicPrefs 1.33 is a free 1 MB download, and a must-have for every Magic Mouse user. It requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later and, it goes without saying, a Magic Mouse.

So far my Magic Mouse software of choice is Andreas Hegenberg's BetterTouchTool. It allows you to use keyboard modifiers with your taps, scrolls, swipes, and zooms. Your actions can then be programmed to act as keyboard shortcuts allowing you to control pretty much anything you can imagine from the mouse.
