There is a wild lion loose in John Christman's PayPal account, and he is not happy about it.
See, the $29.99 price tag for OS X Lion seems extremely reasonable to most people, unless you have to pay it 122 times. Because that equals over $3,800, which would not be reasonable to anyone. And that is exactly what happened to John Christman, according to MacRumors.
On July 23, Christman attempted to do a clean install of Lion on his Mac, using a beta version of iTunes to manage the download. When iTunes prompted to install all of his previously purchased apps, he accepted, and that is where the fun began. Apparently, when each download started, Christman was charged $31.79 to his PayPal account. He downloaded 116 of his apps, and several hung up and needed to be redownloaded, but by then the damage was done. Christman was charged the full price for Lion 122 times, with the total cost equaling $3,878.40.
Ouch.
Christman is having serious issues getting any help with the issue, as he states, "Apple blames PayPal, PayPal blames Apple. They both are claiming to investigate, but I am stuck broke for three days now."
Apparently when Christman notified PayPal and told them to dispute the charges with Apple, PayPal closed the cases and marked them as "refunded", though he has not seen any money yet. "My mortgage is due in 2 days, and thanks to them, I don't have the money," he claims.
According to MacRumors, Christman is not the only customer having lions run all over their wallet; Apple Support has a long thread going on the subject, and other bloggers have also complained about PayPal and Apple hitting them up multiple times.
MacRumors states they reached out to Apple on behalf of Christman, and Apple said they would "they would work with John directly to try to get his issues resolved."
Good luck, John Christman.
