We've been waiting for a long time, and we weren't even all that sure it would ever happen. However, today we can enjoy the fruits of our patience as the Mac gaming classic Marathon releases on the App Store. Die-hard Marathon fans doubtlessly downloaded it for free on Mac ages ago, but today the series is open for a whole new generation to enjoy.
Despite the many difficulties that its developer experienced during Marathon iPad's development, the game has finally arrived on the App Store. Users seem to be enjoying the game too as it has racked up a number of five star reviews in just its first day out (nostalgia points, no doubt).
It will be interesting the see how Marathon fares against other, more modern first-person shooters on the App Store. N.O.V.A. has long had a stranglehold on the sci-fi FPS market on the iPhone. We're wondering if Marathon's good name is enough to bring it to the top of the genre.
The game is free, but the app also features a few in-app purchases such as Master Chief mode which gives you access to all weapons, infinite ammo, and invincibility.
