Microsoft Publicly Slaps Employee’s Hand For “Mac Look & Feel” Comment

When it comes to Microsoft, it pays to be careful what you say in public. That’s what Simon Aldous found out the hard way recently when he proclaimed that Windows 7 “borrowed” a little bit of the Mac mojo during a recent reseller’s conference.
Aldous infamously gave credit to Apple for having a desirable operating system (according to a Microsoft study), going so far as to claim that Windows 7 wanted to “create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics.”
Needless to say, tech blogs had a field day with that quote — that is, until PCR Online, the computer and software reseller publication who first printed it, was found to have presumably gotten the story a tad bit wrong with regards to Aldous’ stature within the company.
Aldous was painted as being a Microsoft executive in his role of marketing manager for the Worldwide Partner Group. It didn’t take long for Brandon LeBlanc, a chief Microsoft online evangelist, to set the record straight: “Unfortunately this came from a Microsoft employee who was not involved in any aspect of designing Windows 7. I hate to say this about one of our own, but his comments were inaccurate and uninformed.”
BetaNews.com went so far as to cite Windows 7’s “revised taskbar” as proof of the Mac inspiration, which compares favorably to the Finder’s Dock. They make it clear, however, that no one at Microsoft felt the same way when the feature was introduced at last year, despite audience questions to the contrary.
Of course, it’s not the first time that Windows has been accused of emulating the Mac, but it may be the last coming from anyone up in Redmond, if Microsoft has anything to say about it.

Wow, you guys are so original. Nobody in the entire Internet had given those pro-Apple anti-MS fanboy arguments before.
Windows 7 is awesome, and it's sold more copies than Apple will ever sell of OS X in it's first week of existence.
Xbox 360, Halo, Windows 7, Surface, Photosynth, Silverlight, the best developer platform on the planet (which is what really made MS as big as it is today).. and all you can say is... Microsoft doesn't have iLife?
Wow... just wow. You need to get out of your basement once in a while, nerds.

Microsoft was angry at this guy because he told the world what we already know and what they are trying to hide: Microsoft copies Mac. It wasn't about freedom of speech.

DOS. Windows. Even P.C. knockoff see-through colorful look-alike hardware. And now the Microsoft Stores, and Windows 7. Oh, and let's not forget the Zune!
Whatever Apple does, Microsoft does worse, and buggy.
It has always been, and more than likely will always be.
This is nothing new, by far. And, if indeed that Microsoft employee did in fact state this, than they are right. Apple is getting larger by the day, and more influential in our society. They also, flat out, do things in every corner and facet of their company better than Microsoft. So,it is no wonder that comments such as this will be made.
Where is Microsoft's equivalent to anything that can touch the iLIfe suite? It doesn't exist. Probably because Microsoft doesn't a care, or b won't take the "risk".
What else is new?
At the end of the day, corporate America can try and control statements like this. Ballmer can yell until he has no more vocal chords Windows, Windows, Windows.
Microsoft's mindless moves don't help any.
Until they start innovating, they are just an annoying bitch board.

Oh my God! Is the concept of freedom of speech so difficult to grasp for you? How is refuting a wrong or false statement somehow against freedom of speech?
If you say something wrong about me and I reply with a correction, how is that neglecting your freedom of speech?
Microsoft did not censor this guy! They just said "listen, he doesn't know much about the subject, and his position at the company is not what was depicted. Here's a more accurate depiction."
What's so wrong about *that*?
