Veteran Mac users may still think of Microsoft as the bad guy over that whole “Mac vs. Windows” thing, but never let it be said the folks in Redmond don’t listen to us. Last month’s Mac release of SkyDrive was plagued with one really annoying fault that the company has fixed in an update rolling out now.
The Windows Blog has announced that a new version of the SkyDrive application for Mac and Windows will be rolling out “over the next week or so” to complement the recent update to the Windows Phone version and a bug-fix update coming to iOS shortly. For Mac and Windows users, there’s nothing to download -- the updates will appear just like magic when the time comes.
For many Mac users on OS X Lion, the biggest change is probably one of the smallest for Microsoft to make: “SkyDrive for OS X Lion no longer shows an app icon in the dock when running,” the blog notes. “We’ve definitely heard the feedback that it wasn’t necessary.”
And there’s more: The Mac SkyDrive folder “now updates more quickly and reliably when changes are made on other devices, including SkyDrive.com,” and Microsoft has raised the ceiling on the total number of files that apps can create there. Didn’t know there was a limit? Well, there was, and it was a paltry 150,000, which has now been increased to “a whopping 10 million! This should unblock some power users from easily adding lots of files to their SkyDrive folder.”
Unfortunately, heading to the SkyDrive apps page downloads the exact same version from April 18 -- users should be keeping an eye out for build number 16.4.4111.0525, which is the one that will automatically update itself, assuming you’ve got SkyDrive running, of course.
