Mobli Social App Boldly Claims To Be “What Twitter Should Have Been”

If you simply can’t get enough of social networking apps, you’ll be overjoyed with Mobli, which hit the App Store over the weekend. Billed as “a new real-time visual media platform,” its founders are calling it “what Twitter should have been.”
Mobli Media Inc. has announced the availability of their free Mobli iOS app to the App Store this past weekend. Boldly describing the app as “what Twitter should have been,” Mobli offers video and photo functionality for even more meaningful content sharing as well as geo-location with personal and interest-based communities.
“Mobli is like having a friend at every event or location you find interesting, feeding you real-time, multimedia content,” explains Mobli founder and CEO Moshe Hogeg. “We created smartphone applications and a website that delivers the best of what social media was intended to be by enabling people to bring experiences and events to life for others with shared interests. At its essence, Mobli lets you watch real-time channels created by your friends, family and other people wherever they are.”
Judging from the early reviews posted on the App Store, Mobli may be a hit with its intended demographic. So how does it work?
When a user signs up -- either through the app itself or on the company’s website -- a “User Channel” is automatically created for you. Any content uploaded to the service will be immediately posted there, sorted by category-specific tags on your posts which will be used to syndicate the content to other relevant Subject or Location Channels. Now that media can be easily discovered by others with similar interests, and likewise their content will be shared with you as well.
For now, Mobli is an iOS-only affair, although users of other smartphones can join in the fun through the company’s website as well. The free app is available now from the App Store and requires iOS 4.0 or later.
