I guess that's a nice way of putting it. Motorola has released a snippet of their upcoming Superbowl ad for the Xoom tablet. Were you a savvy media consumer, you might recognize the gist of it. Just as everyone wants to copy Cupertino's now-legendary tablet, it seems Motorola decided the sincerest form of flattery was how they'd run their ad copy too.
Gray futuristic world? Check. 1984 reference? Check. Our protagonist the one spot of color and life in this bleak vision? Check and check again. Motorola has done little more than update the classic 1984 Big Brother anti-IBM ad that Apple ran back in the day. We caught up with this particular slice of originality via MacDailyNews.
Apparently, Motorola's ad opts for the barely concealed subtext that Apple buyers are all robots with their white hoodies and earphones, while those who buy a product that is an imitation of an Apple product are somehow revolutionary and thinking differently. For crying out loud, what we have here is a rip-off commercial advertising a copycat product. Somehow that's supposed to make buyers feel unique?
Well, let's just hope it makes the Anrdroiders squeal with delight.
