Americans are so used to being the first to get iOS gadgets and the apps that run on them, we sometimes take it for granted -- such as when a high-profile app from someone like Microsoft makes its debut overseas before it hits the U.S., as was the case with the new MSN for iPad, finally available here for your downloading pleasure.
Microsoft has released the free MSN for iPad app in the U.S. App Store overnight, right on the heels of its debut in the U.K., Germany, France and Canada in late January. What was the holdup in America? Beats us, but given that we tend to get all of the cool software first, it only seems fair that the tables get turned on us Yanks now and again.
“MSN is now available on your iPad -- easily swipe to find your favorite news, sports entertainment, autos and money articles & videos in one place,” the app description reads. “Easily share what you find with your friends on Facebook,Twitter or e-mail a link to the article. Of course you can view articles, photos and videos in either portrait or landscape modes with MSN for iPad. Need to dig deeper on something you just read? We’ve built Bing right into the top of the app for easy searching.”
MSN for iPad also allows quick access to Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger as well as a host of popular photo galleries and slideshows, and the whole shebang works great in either portrait or landscape mode. The 0.5MB app is a free download for all iPads running iOS 4.3 or later.
Now that Microsoft has brought most of its key services to the iOS platform, can Microsoft Office be far behind? One would hope not…
