An ominous new trailer has been released for an unknown upcoming iPhone game from the developer RedLynx that teases that it will have 1000 days of gaming content. It's unknown exactly what is meant by this strange announcement, but the trailer seems to suggest that it's some kind of incredibly ambitious downloadable content plan. Or perhaps some type of new procedural generation of levels that creates new content daily.
"Imagine a game with a new character everyday," says the majestic narrator in the trailer. "One thousand heroes to discover. A legendary journey through time. A thousand stories to uncover. Explore a new map each time you play, and venture through a thousand levels."
Anything is possible at this point since the trailer leaves pretty much everything to the imagination, however it seems unlikely that it will be a downloadable content initiative. Even the most optimistic developer would not expect players to log in and download an update every day for three years. And the developers themselves would almost certainly not be able to keep up that pace, no matter how simple the game was. We're betting on procedural generation of levels, characters, and in-game items.
The metaphor of a book is used when describing the thousand adventures, suggesting perhaps that the developer is looking at each of these individual adventures as pages in a larger book. In the press release, the creative director at RedLynx adds fuel to the speculatory fire.
"There is timeline inside all of us," said the creative director, Antti Iivessuo. "A past that guides us, ancestors whom time may have forgotten, but whose choices influence us even today. This game takes these ideas, and plays with them in a fun and engaging way."
Let's keep in mind that this is all just a hype though. Even if it is an absolutely outstanding and fun hype. We'll definitely be watching this game closely as its concept has definitely piqued our interest.
RedLynx is known for their well-received previous release, Trials HD which is available on Xbox Live Arcade and was released in August 2009.
