If Apple were a Quentin Tarantino movie, senior VP Eddy Cue would likely be known as "The Cleaner," judging from a profile of the 23-year veteran published this week in The Wall Street Journal.
The Wall Street Journal published a fascinating look at Apple executive Eddy Cue on Wednesday, just ahead of the rumored release of iTunes 11, which is expected to arrive as early as Thursday.
Cue is a 23-year veteran of Apple best known for helping late CEO Steve Jobs realize his media content ambitions with iTunes. But the senior vice president of Internet Software and Services seems to have a natural talent for fixing problems, judging from his track record with the company.
"Mr. Cue has lately managed crises related to Apple's mobile maps and iCloud and iMessage outages," the report details. "He has taken on iBooks and the iAd advertising service and oversees Apple's App Store, which has more than 700,000 apps. He urged Mr. Cook and others that Apple should develop a smaller iPad based on his own usage of a seven-inch tablet, which Mr. Jobs previously denounced."
With the ousting of iOS chief Scott Forstall last month, 48-year-old Cue is now in charge of the troubled Siri and Maps services as well, which may prove to be his greatest challenge to date.
iTunes 11 also falls under Cue's purview, and the latest Mac version has already faced a month's delay which the article blames on "engineering issues that required parts to be rebuilt." Assuming it arrives this week as scheduled, users will be able to judge for themselves if Cue is indeed "The Cleaner" if the revamped media player exceeds expectations.
