It seems more than a little bit strange, but apparently after the mid-season NBA trade flurry the iOS version of NBA Jam will be receiving a big roster update to bring the game up to speed with the current situation in the NBA. What's so strange about that? Well, iOS and other mobile platforms are the only ones getting that update. Console gamers, many of whom paid ten times as much for the game at release, wont be getting it.
It's not just a roster update though. The game will also be getting some as-yet-undisclosed tweaks to the gameplay. Some users have complained of bugs in the iOS version of the title so it's likely to just be some tightening of the game's code. Which is good, because we wouldn't change very much about NBA Jam [iTunes Link]. It's a fantastic game, and very likely the single best B-Ball game on the App Store.
We'd be extremely interested to hear the reasoning behind the decision to snub console gamers when the game retailed for $50 in stores but only $5 on iOS. It likely has something to do with the lengthy approval process used by Microsoft and Sony's online services. Or even just the differing culture of the two platforms. Console gamers don't usually expect games to be updated frequently after the purchase while iOS gamers have become accustomed to developers catering to their every desire for months afterward.
