Netflix Coming to the Mac - For Reals
Posted 10/27/2008 at 12:34:59pm | by Danny Estrada

netflixWe've been raised with some very strong moral beliefs. The first being that Apple is good and Microsoft is evil. The second being that Sony is good and Microsoft is even more evil. So we're left confused, and understandably upset, when we hear friends bragging about how the Xbox 360 has teamed up with Netflix to provide streaming movies, and we're blessed with an awesome MacBook that can't. Well, not for long.

Netflix has announced today that they have managed to bring streaming movies and TV shows to Macs everywhere via Microsoft's Silverlight. Netflix is taking full advantage of Silverlight's Play Ready DRM to vastly improve the user's experience by providing faster launch times, higher quality of video, and, "improves the uses of fast-forwarding and rewinding." Which could really help you get to the good parts of Lost. You know, the ones without Charlie.

The catch, Silverlight will only run on Intel-based Macs, so if you love your Mac, and your movies, make sure you invest in an upgrade. Netflix hasn't released the service to the masses yet. The company is rolling out the service to a small percentage of its users. When we get it, we can feel less guilty about RockBand on the Xbox 360, and repent by watching Metalocalypse between sets on our MacBooks.
