Die-hard Facebook users are a very connected group of people, and they sure do get frustrated when they can't get hooked up with one of their favorite services. Starting today, integrating Netflix to Facebook will no longer be one such point of contention.
Netflix announced new social integration on Wednesday, as U.S. members can finally link their accounts to Facebook for the first time. While the feature is rolling out today, some members may not see it until the end of this week.
So what does the new social integration actually get you? Netflix members can now see what their friends are watching via new "Friends' Favorites" and "Watched By Your Friends" functionality, which is pulled from Facebook and added to the Netflix website. If you're really into sharing, you can even automatically share everything you watch with friends, who can also return the favor.
"There are few better ways to find a movie or TV series you'll love than hearing about it from your friends," said Tom Willerer , vice president of product innovation at Netflix. "Facebook already makes it easy for our international members to connect with friends over TV shows and movies and we're thrilled to now bring this experience to our U.S. members."
If this feature sounds familiar, that's because Netflix debuted it around the globe more than a year ago, but was unable to do the same in the United States due to government restrictions. Thanks to Congress updating the video sharing law that caused the blockade earlier this year, Netflix members are finally free to hook up via Facebook -- if you're into that kind of thing, naturally.
