The complexities of business transactions between multi-billion dollar corporations can be perplexing to common folks like us. With all of the legal mumbo-jumbo involved it can be difficult, if not impossible, to unravel the truth behind the freshly forged relationships between the companies that infiltrate our lives on a daily basis. At Mac|Life, we strive to break these issues down to easy to swallow bite-sized pieces. In the spirit of this, we have some good news and bad news for you to mull over.
The good news is that Netflix just paid close to $1 billion dollars for the exclusive streaming rights to films made by Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate.
The bad news is that the initial list of movies available will include titles like The Pink Panther 2 and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra randomly popping up in your Netflix algorithm.
Fortunately, there will be other movies to choose from besides the bad ones. The exclusivity deal announced earlier today will go a long way towards maintaining the streaming giant's DVDs direct-to-your-door relevancy in an increasingly saturated media market. As a result of the exclusivity deal, fewer movies will be available to other streaming content providers. This will no doubt send more folks to Netflix to satiate their media consumption needs.
