Everyone’s favorite Taiwanese tech rumor website is at it again, this time stirring up the recent camera-enabled iPod touch theories again, as well as proposing that a new MacBook Air is also cooking in Apple’s labs for the second half of this year.
MacRumors is reporting on the latest Apple product refresh rumors, courtesy of Taiwanese tech blog Digitimes. The first part of the rumor adds some details to recent reports that an iPod touch refresh presumed to be coming in September will be adding a camera to the mix, which has been anticipated since last year’s revelation that a prototype of the device already had one.
“The new iPod touch will feature a three-megapixel camera, capable of both photo and video recording, and will adopt Apple's latest A4 processor, which is also used in the iPhone 4,” claims Digitimes. The A4 processor would be a logical move, as Apple first introduced it with the iPad and continues to roll it out throughout their mobile device lineup.
Perhaps the bigger news from the Digitimes rumor source is a new MacBook Air on deck for later this year, which appears to be going for “smaller is better,” with an 11.6-inch display versus the current 13.3-inch screen on the current model.
According to Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo, citing discussions with upstream component makers, noted that “the 11.6-inch MacBook Air will feature an even slimmer and lighter design than the previous-generation models and the technologies used for the design and concept are expected to be broadly used in the company's other product lines to boost their competitiveness.”
A MacBook Air with a smaller display might seem an odd choice for Apple, given that the iPad is only less than two inches smaller, but for portable Mac OS X users, a smaller and presumably even thinner MacBook Air might be just the ticket.
