When iPhone gaming first gained popularity we expected small-scale hits like Angry Birds and Doodle Jump, but few people foresaw the large influx of quality RPG experiences. Specifically, the large amount of RPGs that have been coming out of South Korea where mobile RPGs had been popular many years before they caught on in the West. The latest of these so-called KRPGs to reach our shores is called Wild Frontier [iTunes Link].
It doesn't have the big name like Zenonia 2 or Hybrid, nor does it have the the backing of a major publisher like Com2us or Gamevil. But the game is said to be fairly popular in South Korea, with over half a million sales. Wild Frontier obviously draws inspiration from its predecessors like Zenonia though. The graphical style is very similar, and the virtual-button simple combat style doesn't look terribly different either. That's not really a bad thing though considering Zenonia is widely considered one of the top iOS games ever released.
These South Korean RPGs have gained a reputation for offering insane amounts of gameplay for incredibly low prices and Wild Frontier is no different. It's currently available for just $0.99 and includes a full action adventure game complete with day/night world cycles, a system for crafting your own items, and several different classes to mix up gameplay. Even if this game ends up terrible, $0.99 might be worth it for all of that.
