Though initially shy about showing off video footage of their upcoming strategy MMO, the creators at Zarksoft have somewhat pulled the lid off of their very interesting new project. Empire of the Eclipse is an upcoming sci-fi MMO in which players co-exist in a galaxy that can hold up to 1000+ players. The players then vie for control of star systems and expand their empire across the galaxy.
It's easy to see why they might have been a little bit cagey about revealing this game to the public. If they showed it off when it wasn't ready then the user interface could look clumsy which would be catastrophic to a complex game like this. Thankfully, the game actually looks really simple to control in motion.
In the video, the developer explains that players will be able to colonize star systems and planets which are used to harvest resources and build ships. The real hook of the game (since it's an MMO after all) is how you interact with other players. Players who trade with others will receive bonuses, giving them an advantage. So with any luck this could add some delicious political intrigue to the experience as temporary alliances turn to bitter backstabbings.
We're still waiting for a lot of the details to come in about Empire of the Eclipse, but what we've seen has us very intrigued. We'll definitely be watching this one closely as it looks to have heaps of potential wrapped in a sweet sci-fi wrapper (which is perhaps our favorite kind of wrapper.)
