Cuteness comes in many forms, but is it possible to apply it to a moon-sized space station designed for the obliteration of billions of lives? With Star Wars: Tiny Death Star, developer NimbleBit certainly seems to hope so, and there's a good chance it'll be able to considering the studio's success with free-to-play iOS games like Tiny Tower, Pocket Trains, and Pocket Planes.
Indeed, based on the description we've received, it doesn't appear to differ much from the winning formula that's worked so well for NimbleBit in the past. In Tiny Tower, we stuffed a massive tower full of businesses and expanded it through resource collection, and apparently we'll be doing the same in Tiny Death Star, but with a pixelated Darth Vader barking out the orders.
In the words of the press release we received,"The Empire needs your help! In collaboration with LucasArts and Tiny Tower creators NimbleBit, Disney Mobile introduces Star Wars™: Tiny Death Star™, a new game for mobile devices. Live life on the dark side and join Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader on a mission to attract Galactic bitizens, run intergalactic businesses, and build an all-new Death Star. Construct unique Star Wars themed locations to attract iconic characters and species to your space station in this 8-bit style game. Star Wars: Tiny Death Star will soon be available worldwide."
We'd love to be able to tell you when to expect it, but the announcement didn't come with a release date aside from the aforementioned "soon." Take heart, though--usually when an announcement like this surfaces, the game itself appears within the following week or two. Considering NimbleBit's past history, Star Wars: Tiny Death Star will likely be free-to-play.
