Nokia and Yahoo have been having a pretty rough time of late. It seems that two other companies that offer similar services and products -- we're looking at you Apple and Google -- have been hammering the pair of venerable companies into the ground. In an announcment made by email and a press conference today, Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz let the world in on a little secret: Yahoo and Nokia are teaming up to bring you the goods.
What goods would those be, you ask?
According to Kallasvuo, the strategic alliance between the two tech powerhouses will work to "leverage each others' strengths in e-mail, instant messaging and maps and navigation services." Yahoo will also throw the muscle of their instant messaging and mail services behind the Nokia's Ovi platform.
No matter what handset manufacturer or search engine company you fancy, this is great news. When companies like Yahoo and Nokia, or if you prefer, Apple and Google work together, the ensuing innovations cultivated from the partnership tends to drive the whole market forward. That spells out win for smartphone consumers everywhere.
