After having its patent case against Apple thrown out back in March, cell phone giant Nokia is back for more, having been granted a partial review of two of their five patent claims with the U.S. International Trade Commission.
Bloomberg is reporting that Nokia, the world’s largest maker of cell phones, may be getting another crack at Apple -- at least where two of its five overturned patent infringement claims are concerned. The full six-member U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) panel will give two of Nokia’s claims another review, while Apple is clear of any wrongdoing on the other three.
“The ITC said it would focus the review on the meaning of specific terms in two patents,” Bloomberg reports. “Espoo, Finland-based Nokia is seeking to block U.S. imports of the iPhone, one of two cases it lodged against Cupertino, California-based Apple with the ITC.
“One of the patents under review relates to a way to improve the quality of speakers and antennas while keeping them small,” the report continues. “The other is for reducing the space and energy consumed by having a camera on the phone, according to the complaint.”
Nokia’s first patent infringement case against Apple dates back to October, 2009 and now encompasses 46 patents in various civil lawsuits and ITC complaints. Apple has fired back with several cases of their own that are still pending.
