O2, one of the iPhone carriers in the United Kingdom, announced today that the iPhone 4 will be in limited supply perhaps until August. A note on its website confirms that only existing O2 customers will be able to receive the iPhone 4 at launch, and existing customers will have priority until the end of July.
The note, posted on the O2 website reads, "iPhone stock will be extremely limited in the UK at launch and not everybody who wants one will be able to get one straight away. We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us."
There is no word yet on other carriers doing the same thing, or any information about a supply shortage in the US. AT&T and BestBuy have both stopped pre-orders, and in the US, Apple has revised its shipping date at least three times since the pre-orders started. And in the UK, hopeful iPhone 4 owners will be able to pick up an iPhone at other carriers, including Orange.
