Ars Technica reports that an update is coming for Microsoft's Office for Mac that will deliver new Lion based features, including Auto Save and Full Screen Mode. That update, however, is still a few months away.
According to the report, the main Office apps, Word, Excel, and PowePoint, run fine on Lion right now, but bugs have appeared with secondary apps and features. Windows Live Messenger has a serious crashing bug and is waiting on an imminent update to be released and do some fixing, and Outlook seems to have some issues importing emails from Apple's Mail app. These and other smaller issues will be handled with periodic updates, but bringing the cool Lion features to the big three Office apps is something that will be "measured in months not days—just to set expectations," according to Microsoft's Pat Fox.
Apple's productivity suite, iWork, is of course completely updated to work with Lion. With all of the advance time Microsoft programmers had to work with the Lion code, giving the much less expensive iWork apps a lead of several months to entice users with Lion features is rather surprising to many users.
