Your days of waiting for an Apple tablet are over. Sort of.
A bunch of enterprising developers (hackers) have found a way to get the iPhone OS on a different, bigger, better device. They have posted a video that shows the OS running on a touchscreen monitor that has an accelerometer. Essentially, they loaded the OS on a Mac Pro, and then booted into it.
Apparently they were able to harness most of the features via the screen. Of course, they have not posted a guide to recreate the hack so you can try it yourself, and time will tell whether this is real or just a really, really, good video editing job, but that said, we would totally buy one.
What do you think? Is it real? Drop your opinion in the comments.
The group has posted on their site, http://www.dreamfield.se/2009/06/iphoneipod-viral-experiment/ , that it is a complete fake, including the error message. It wasn't video editing though, they instead played a video on a Dell(!) monitor in portrait mode with the logo covered up. *sniff*

Over and over again, it's has been suggested, rumoured, there have been more kind of do-it-yourself prototypes and of course there is that German company that sells a customized powerbook-with-wacom-integration.
Then again, we can only wait if / when Apple want to do it.. Which is kinda lame, yes, since it is so appealing to so many of us. Is Steve holding it up his sleeve until he's back, to make a nice big re-entre?
You made a giant iPod touch... minus the music... and App Store....
Other than that, this is a slight break though.
I hope Apple listens to us when we all SCREAM that WE WANT A MAC TABLET!
