Maybe you’re frustrated by availability of the iPad 2, so you decide to head to Apple’s website to buy one of the original models from their clearance section. Unfortunately, if you want a Wi-Fi only model, it may already be too late.
AppleInsider is reporting that Apple may have another iPad inventory situation on its hands. While the hot new iPad 2 continues to sell out worldwide, the company’s own web-based clearance outlet has apparently sold out of Wi-Fi only models of the original iPad.
According to Electronista, the 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad was the first to vanish from Apple’s online store on Thursday, and a spot check on Friday shows only 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities of the Wi-Fi + 3G models still remain, which continue to have $100 chopped off their original prices -- coming in at $529, $629 and $729, respectively.
Sadly, this doesn’t appear to be an April Fool’s Day joke on would-be customers. The most logical explanation is that many customers have become fed up with trying to get an iPad 2 and have decided to settle for the original (at least for now). However, everyone likes a bargain, so the lure of $100 off last year’s iPad may be too tempting for many.
The only question that remains is, will we see stock on the original iPad replenished in Apple’s online store? Or is this soon to be the end of the line for last year’s model?
