Certainly a server option will be available for new computers that arrive equipped with Lion. That's the big question for me, how much it will cost to turn a new Lion system into Lion server.

So what happens if a year from now I want to set up a Lion Server. SL Server won't be available. There has to be a way to set up a fresh Lion Server system.

It's possible that I misconstrued the information at apple.com/macosx/server/how-to-buy/ which says, "You’ll need Snow Leopard Server v10.6.6 or later to purchase Lion and Lion Server from the Mac App Store."

It may only mean that *if* you're already running Mac OS X Server you need to update to the latest Snow Leopard version before purchasing and installing the Lion version. Apple, of course, is the only one who can clarify this for sure.
