You may not know app developers Outfit7 by name (yet), but you’ll likely remember them from their work, including the popular Talking Tom Cat. The company announced today a rare milestone of 100 million downloads in less than a year as they prepare for a new wave of entertainment apps.
Mobile developer Outfit7 announced Tuesday that their popular Talking Friends series of apps have now been downloaded more than 100 million times since the introduction of their first effort less than 10 months ago, in July of last year. Following that humble debut with Talking Tom Cat, the company has introduced an entire line of chattering characters which have had nationwide exposure on The Today Show as well as ABC’s hit sitcom, Modern Family.
To put that 100 million downloads in perspective, it took the popular Angry Birds game a year and a half to hit the same milestone -- and 15 months for iTunes to hit 100 million songs downloaded. The company is rightfully proud of accomplishing the same number in just under 10 months after combining their iOS and Android downloads.
“We have been amazed by the tens of millions of people worldwide who have been touched emotionally by the Talking Friends characters,” Outfit7 CEO Andrej Nabergoj remarked in a press release. “Just as Disney has created characters that everyone adores, our goal as a mobile entertainment company is to create characters that our users can bond with on a deeper, interactive level where ever they happen to be.”
Though you may not be familiar with Outfit7 by name just yet, you’ve no doubt seen their work -- a collection of 10 unique, fully animated 3D characters such as Talking Tom Cat, Talking Rex the Dinosaur and even Talking Santa, who come alive when poked, tickled and played with on your iOS or Android device. In addition to repeating anything you say to the character, you can also create customized videos of your characters and share them with friends on Facebook, YouTube or via email.
“We look forward to creating even stronger ties with people of all ages as we launch additional Talking Friends this year and begin to extend the brand into new categories,” Nabergoj concludes.
To celebrate the company’s milestone, Nabergoj will be participating in two panel discussions at the APPNATION conference in San Francisco on Tuesday and Wednesday. For more information on the event, click over to the APPNATION 2011 website for a complete list of speakers and events.
